First and second place winners, as well as those who received honorable mention, from the Young Professionals Chamber of Commerce Tenth Annual Business Leadership Competition along with friends, family and their teachers gathered recently at the Elks Lodge in Huntington to celebrate and be recognized for their achievement as some of the brightest high school students on Long Island.
This year more than 275 high school students from 13 local high schools, including Commack, Farmingdale, Half Hollow Hills East, Half Hollow Hills West, Harborfields, Hauppauge, Huntington, North Shore, Northport, Oyster Bay, St. Dominic’s, Walt Whitman, and Wilson Technological Center participated. “The winners this year impressed all of us on so many levels illustrating their knowledge and creativity,” said Linda Mitchell, Executive Director of the YPCC. “We are so glad that we have this opportunity to recognize their hard work and accomplishments. This is a wonderful annual event for the students.” she continued.
During the competition students demonstrated their knowledge through presentations in categories including Fashion Marketing, Hospitality Services, Advertising, Graphic Design, Travel and Tourism, Entertainment Marketing, Sports Management, Sports Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Job Interview Skills. “It is an incredible competition that highlights the local leaders of tomorrow who demonstrate exceptional knowledge of the business world,” said Robert Bontempi, Chairman of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce.
Elected officials were in attendance and proclamations were distributed to the students by Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Legislator William Spencer, Councilwoman Susan Berland, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, and Councilman Mark Mayoka. Jack Safarik, Past Exalted Ruler and Trustee of the Elks Lodge concluded “It is an honor for the Elks Lodge to host and be a part of recognizing the work of these phenomenal young students. The talent they present shows that the country is heading in the right direction and our future is very bright here on Long Island.”
