Bruce Price, founder of Improve-Education.org and author of THE EDUCATION ENIGMA, issued a broadside to the Republican Party: “Wake up, please. Everybody knows liberal Democrats are primarily responsible for the dumbing down of the public schools. This is an issue that most people care about. Jump on it. To have a huge impact, simply tell the truth--namely, liberals and Democrats like to use education for social engineering purposes. Facts and knowledge tend to get lost in the shuffle.”
The broadside is titled “Republicans Must Attack Dems On Education” and can be found on the giant article site AmericanChronicle.com. (Just search that title.)
“I’ve been writing about education for 25 years,” Price says, “and my summary is tending to become shorter and more severe. Here it is: virtually none of the ideas that our educators came up with in the last hundred years actually enhanced education. Nor were they intended to. These people, since the time of John Dewey, have been obsessed with using the schools to create a more collectivist America. Typically, they regard real education as a nuisance or, more likely, an obstacle to their secret plans.”
This broadside is specifically aimed at politicians and people who take politics very seriously. Here’s a giant issue just waiting to be picked up and used. Price launches his challenge with this preface:
“Please, somebody WAKE UP the Republicans and tell them the good news: Democrats are guilty of educational malfeasance, and most people know it. Who else but liberal Democrats have created the dumbed-down public schools that now waste so much money and damage the country at every level? Liberal educators believe in collectivism; so they emphasize group activities at the expense of academic progress. In short, the party of ‘defining deviance down’ is also the party of defining dumbness down. Why do this? Obviously, Democrats believe ignorant people are more likely to vote Democrat. If by ‘education’ you mean what virtually all Americans mean--that is, reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.--then no one is more anti-education than liberal Democrats. This should be shouted from the rooftops.”
The article includes seven Rules for Republicans, just the kind of advice that Saul Alinsky might offer.
Price also wrote a related article “38: Saving Public Schools--A New Paradigm.” This can be found on Improve-Education.org.
Bruce Deitrick Price has emerged as one of the country’s leading education activists. He has more than 125 articles on the web. His new book “THE EDUCATION ENIGMA--What Happened To American Education” is intended to educate the public about why the schools have become so mediocre. His general thesis is that we can’t save the country if we don’t first save the schools. (Book available on Amazon.)
