There has been a criminal investigation instigated by the federal authorities for Republican Delaware candidate Christine O’Donnell to see if she misused campaign money on personal expenses. This is an issue that came up more than one time during her campaign and she for the most part dodged around the questions and never really get a firm answer. CNN had numerous interviews where they hounded her to talk about her finance spending. It seems like now this issue may have potentially caught up with her.
It has been said that she used her campaign money to pay for meals, gas, bowling outings, and rent. These allegations are coming from former staff workers within her campaign. There has been at least 2 former campaign workers who have brought these issues to the forefront. They say she has routinely used campaign funds to pay for personal expenses since she has been trying to win a seat in the Senate since 2006.

It is against federal law for candidates to use campaign funds for personal use. Accordingly the FEC states that prohibition applies to the use of campaign money for a candidate’s mortgage or rent even if part of the residence is being used by the campaign.
While on the campaign trail in 2010 Christine O’Donnell raised $7.3 million dollars which was a state record. She also drew a lot of national attention with her surprise victory in the primary election by defeating moderate Republican Representative Mike Castle for the GOP Senate nomination. She was an overnight star for this defeat and for her past appearances on the Bill Maher show. She was finally defeated for the Senate seat in November to Democrat Chris Coons.
